Knowledge in Motion in the Early Modern World

On Tuesday, May 10th, Prof. Dr. Pamela Smith will hold a lecture on the subject "Knowledge in Motion in the Early Modern World"

Lecture room: RAI-H-041, Rämistrasse 74, 8001 Zurich

Pamela H. Smith is Professor at Columbia University, New York. Her field of specialization is Early Modern European History and the History of Science. Rather than being preoccupied with the fruits of knowledge – such as books, data, and ideas – her work pays close attention to the ways in which knowledge is produced and acquired. Her latest publication The Body of the Artisan (2009) follows an ‘artisanal epistemology’, showing how craftsmen, artists and artisans were the source of scientific knowledge production. Her current research focuses on attitudes towards nature in early modern Europe and the Scientific Revolution, with particular attention to the mobility of knowledge and its mobilization.
