Public Lecture and Panel Discussion: Democracy in India Today

The University of Zurich, with the generous support of the Mercator Foundation Switzerland, has recently established a new chair for modern Indian/South Asian Studies. We  invite you to join us to learn more about what we are doing at our newly expanded department.

Patrick French, a leading public intellectual on Indian affairs, will deliver a keynote lecture on what makes Indian democracy unique, and on the recent rise to power of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).  The keynote will be followed by a panel discussion on the condition of Indian democracy with Patrick French, Mukulika Banerjee, Angelika Malinar, Nicolas Martin, and Katharina Michaelowa.
