Beschreibung

Professor Prasenjit Duara, Raffles Professor of Humanities, Director of the Asia Research Institute as well as Director of Research in Humanities and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore, is one of the most influential voices in Asian studies today. He is a historian of China and more broadly of Asia in the 20th century, writing also on historical thought and historiography. Among his books are Rescuing History from the Nation (1995), Sovereignty and Authenticity: Manchu-kuo and the East Asian Modern (2003), and The Global and the Regional in China’s Nation-Formation (2009). He is currently completing a new book on Transcendence in a Secular World: Asian Traditions and Sustainable Modernity.
