Basic Course: "Following Arabic news and reports"

In this course you will be working on news as provided by newspapers - supplemented by TV or radio extracts. You will thus get familiar with the style of media Arabic and build up an important core vocabulary for different topics.

Material:   We will work with the revised and updated edition of the book "Media Arabic" by Alaa Algibali and Nevenka Korica, AUC 2014, ISBN 978-9774166525, which will be supplemented by the teacher with some current news items and audio and video extracts.
Lecturer:   Daniel Falk, M.A., University of Leipzig, Germany.
Time:   15. September - 1. Dezember 2014 (12 sessions).
Monday 20:00-21:30 CET (19:00-20:30 GMT, will be 18:00-19:30 GMT after 26.Oct.)
Communication in class:   Class is taught in Arabic and English.
Communication via browserbased webinar software.
Participants   Participants are within our beginners level; you are thus expected to have a sound knowledge of Arabic grammar and the ability to understand an intermediate Arabic text with the aid of a dictionary. You are not expected of having extensively read Arabic authentic material or followed Arabic TV programs. You can express your opinion in Arabic spontaneously in a simple way, a discussion without preparation might still be too difficult.
